Enterprises of Kazakhstan experience a shortage of workers

The labor market experiences not only a shortage of skilled labor, but also an imbalance. These are interim results of the survey, which was conducted among employers jointly by experts of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs "Atameken" and the Information and Analytical Center for Employment of the Ministry of Health and Social Development. According to the press service of the department, about 6 thousand business leaders took part in the survey. It is planned to cover more than 8 thousand Kazakhstani employers, the results of the survey will be announced in April of this year.

The first national survey among business leaders was conducted in 2015. Almost four thousand executives participated in it and shared the needs of their businesses. The results showed that more than 95% of respondents noted an acute demand for workers with low and medium skills. At the same time the employers are concerned not only about the deficit but also about low professional level of current employees.

Meanwhile, the analysts of the Centre say that it is expected in the future that the demand for specialists with high qualifications will increase in Kazakhstan. However, the major share of employment is concentrated in the service sector, with the decline of employment in agriculture and stable employment in the industry. The situation will be worsened by predicted uneven population growth. Thus, it is expected that by the end of 2020 if the current trend continues, an imbalance in the labor market will be felt in the regions. The difference between supply and demand for labor will create a shortage of labor in the North Kazakhstan, Kostanai and East Kazakhstan regions, and surplus in the South Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda and Mangystau regions.

In addition, according to Ranking.kz, the number of workers at retirement and pre-retirement age has increased in the Kazakhstani labor market. During 2015 the number of employees aged 65+ in Kazakhstan has doubled, reaching about 21.2 thousand people. Moreover, as it was noted in the study, the rate of growth in this sector is well ahead of the rate of increase in the number of employees in other age categories.
