We do not appreciate what we have
The Regional Chamber took over the task of revival of tourism in Zhambyl region
Many of the cornerstones of the problem have not yet been resolved, as state structures responsible for the development of tourism work in a poor way, ignoring the requests and requirements of the local travel agencies.
What tourist routes can the region offer to its guests? In what condition are they? Is the accompanying infrastructure available? Where are the multi-lingual guides? What is the level of service at hotels and catering establishments? There was no clear answer to these and other question until the Director of the Regional Chamber Karlyash Aralbekova interfered in the case. A working group was formed on her initiative and with the support of Akim of the oblast Karim Kokrekbaev, which included representatives of RCE, government agencies, travel companies, hotels and restaurants, historians, archeologists and journalists. We visited all the districts of the region to study the state of tourism facilities and determining the scope of work in order to bring in a decent appearance, both the facilities and associated infrastructure.
"It is very regrettable that Taraz, which has a thousand-year history, did not use its own tourism potential, the same applies to the historical and cultural monuments in the rural areas. Many countries have long been successfully implementing their tourism opportunities, attracting considerable funds to the state budget. Our tourism potential is as big, but for various reasons it is practically not used. But time has come and we can’t postpone the development of tourism. The main event - the exhibition EXPO in Astana is ahead, our region will host the guests of the large-scale international event. Time is running short, so it is necessary to exert maximum efforts to create favorable conditions for many tourists", - this opinion was expressed by the director of the Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Zhambyl region Karlygash Aralbekova.
We need to show tourists a rich history of our region, the ancestral ancient monuments, handicrafts, crafts and more. There are 3365 historic sites in the region, 713 of which are of local importance, 28 are of republican, 5 - international, that are protected by UNESCO. All of them, no doubt, will be very attractive to the visitors, and each has its own unique appearance and storied history
The Working Group, which was created by RCE, traveled to all the historical places of the region. Route length was more than 700 kilometers. Condition of many monuments and especially the level of auxiliary services, to put it mildly, is not very joyful. For example, the results of info tour revealed that 90 per cent of the roads leading to the facilities are in poor condition. At the entrance to the ancient settlement Balasagun, a vehicle, which carried the working group got stuck in the thick mud. So I had to make a six-kilometer foot march to the destination. Not enough attention is paid to the installation of information booths along the transport arteries that promote local historic attractions.
Another problem is the lack of guides, fluent in Russian and national languages. And when you think of foreign visitors who come to the exhibition EXPO-2017, there arises a need in English-speaking guides. A lot of work in the hotel business and roadside service.
Having familiarized with the results of the information tours, Akim of the region Karim Kokrekbaev thanked the working group and promised to assist local authorities in addressing urgent problems.
