From Lisbon to Vladivostok
"It is sensible to talk about the prospects of cooperation between the EU and the EAEU, especially about the long-term cooperation", - said Viktor Khristenko
Within the frames of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum was held a round table "Relations by the formula EU - EAEU: business vision”.
"Currently, the European Union and the EAEU do not even have common goals - said the Chairman of Board. - But without a coherent vision of the future, you can not move forward. Any challenge will be an insurmountable problem. A single goal, a clear path of motion, as a rule, allow to look quite differently at the old, seemingly insurmountable problems and eliminate them in working order”.
He noted that a substantial part of the contents of the dialogue between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union is currently transferred to the supranational level of competence on the Eurasian Economic Commission. The Chairman of Board of EEC sees it as a big plus.
"The legislative framework of EAEU is based on the rules and regulations of the WTO and seeks to incorporate the best international practices, including the experience of the European Union. There is no other example of such deep integration. From this perspective, economic space of EAEU is prepared for the project "from Lisbon to Vladivostok”. EAEU - is an expanded and more harmonized space, in terms of compliance to the global standards of regulation", - said Viktor Khristenko.
Touching upon the growing role of China in the world economy, including the formation of new geopolitical and geo-economic conditions, the President of the EEC Board stressed that what is happening does not mean abandoning traditional ties and shift the focus of economic cooperation prospects away from the EU. "Everything that has happened in recent events clearly highlights the risks that are not covered by anything: financial, technological, and others. The search for the answer lies in multi-vector development on the one hand, and in-depth interaction and interpenetration – on the other "- said the speaker of the EEC.
According to Viktor Khristenko, in order to continue the establishment of effective cooperation between the EU and the EAEU an institutionalized dialogue between the European Commission and the Eurasian Economic Commission with the inclusion of active business players in this work is missing from the Commission's point of view. "The Commission is not an alternative to the Country dialogue. But it complements it in the part of transfer to the supranational level of a large volume of competence. We could start with the formation of a common understanding of the goals and objectives of our development", - suggested Viktor Khristenko.
